Gray Area Gallery Groundbreaking
Tomorrow at 1:00 the new Gray Area Gallery will be holding its groundbreaking in San Francisco. This looks to be a very promising new arts space, particularly in a city that doesn’t have a steady space dedicated to multimedia art work. Recombinant Media Labs is working in conjunction with Gray Area Foundation for the Arts to present some interesting content in the future.
1:00 -1:30 p.m.: Doors opens, wine & refreshments
1:30 – 2:00 p.m.: Overview of plans for Taylor St.
with Executive Director
2:00 – 4:00 p.m.: Open for preview of gallery
The Tenderloin Economic Development Project (TEDP) celebrates its first success with the announcement of the first groundbreaking on Taylor Street. After over a year of community organization, Gray Area Foundation For The Arts invites you to a preview and groundbreaking ceremony of their new location in the Tenderloin. GAFFTA, a newly formed non-profit organization, will break ground on facilities for the Gray Area Gallery, Gray Area Beacon, Gray Area Boutique, Table Nectar Cafe & Catering and Recombinant Media Lab Annex.
Though some notable artistic pioneers have enlivened San Francisco’s Tenderloin District with spaces for the arts, the potential of the neighborhood to become a full blown arts district has yet to be realized. Josette Melchor, Executive Director of GAFFTA, has worked along side the North of Market Neighborhood Improvement Corporation to envision an expansion of the arts community in the Tenderloin with the Taylor Street corridor as its spine. We urge you to come to our new home in the Tenderloin on February 21, 2009. Stop by to get a small taste of what we will offer the neighborhood and the city of San Francisco when we open our doors.
